Emollient Day: know its benefits and learn how to prepare it

Whether in summer or winter, the emollient always goes down well. It can be taken hot or cold, with or less flaxseed, the seed that gives it that characteristic gelatinous texture. This national drink has various health benefits and will vary depending on how it is prepared. In this note we show you what they are.

What are the benefits of taking emollient?

The emollient is a traditional drink that is drunk in various parts of Peru. It is believed that it was born in colonial times, with the arrival of the Spanish. Although more than two hundred years have passed, this drink remains very current in the streets of Lima, where it is very common to see vendor stalls that offer it. Many health benefits are attributed to it. Some are true and some are not.

1. Prevents constipation

This soft drink that can be taken hot or cold. As nutritionist Melissa Paz explains, having flaxseed and barley as ingredients helps prevent constipation. Flaxseed is rich in soluble fiber (it turns into gel during digestion) generating increased intestinal movement. On the other hand, barley is rich in vitamin C and fiber, which generates a feeling of satiety and prevents constipation.

2. Reduces cholesterol

Healthy Pleasure nutritionist Sylvia Rodriguez explained that the emollient helps reduce blood cholesterol. “Flaxseed, due to its high fiber content, helps lower blood cholesterol levels. However, if the emollient is sweetened with sugar it will not have this effect.” Add.

The ideal would be to take the emollient without sugar to take advantage of its benefits.

3. Diuretic and anti-inflammatory

Horsetail, flaxseed, and barley are responsible for the emollient being a diuretic, and help us eliminate toxic substances from the body through urine, according to Rodriguez. Flaxseed because it contains omega 3 fiber provides the anti-inflammatory effect.

4. Ally against gastritis

“The type of soluble fiber that the herbal mixture contains makes it an ideal drink for people with gastritis, as long as it is not sweetened with refined sugar,” Rodriguez sentenced. Sugar could cause stomach acids to rise. In addition, Paz indicated that it is a good replacement for drinks that worsen this disease, such as soft drinks and other sugary ones.

How much do you take per day?

There is no minimum or maximum number of glasses of emollient per day. The specialists indicate that its consumption should be moderated if a lot of sugar is added to its preparation.
