The tastiest tequeños in Lima? Get to know Tequeño Lab, the place that turns this snack into a delicacy

“Tequeño Lab went on the market in September 2020, but before that there was a good time to think about the project and give it shape,” says Omar Venturo, owner of the brand. He, with a Peruvian father and a Venezuelan mother, has lived in Peru for 9 years. Since he was young, he was linked to the gastronomic theme thanks to his family’s businesses and he currently runs this space located in Barranco.

After the arrival of the pandemic, he decides to undertake with the Tequeños. “I feel like I bet on this because of how versatile the product is, I can convert different recipes and put them in a tequeño,” says Venturo.

It started only offering its products through delivery. Then, over time, they decided to offer the products ready to eat or frozen, so customers could cook them at home. They are currently located on Av. Almirante Miguel Grau de Barranco, in a small and cozy space that offers 7 varieties of tequeños.

For every taste

When we talk about tequeños we usually imagine a dough stuffed with abundant cheese and in this space they offer us just that. Fried to the right point, with delicious cheese and the perfect touch of salty.

Tequeño Lab goes one step further and not only conquers us with the classic, but also flirts with other ingredients. This is how the other flavors that are worth highlighting arise, such as pesto and cheese or fried plantain with cheese.

Without a doubt, our favorite was the ají de gallina queso, a very well accomplished homage to the classic of Peruvian Creole cuisine. The fillings are generous, the portions are ideal and the flavor is never lacking in each bite.

They also offer two sweet versions, for those who can’t stop ordering dessert. The classic is chocolate, with a rather creamy and decadent filling. The other option is the cookies n’cream filling, with chocolate biscuit and white chocolate.

Another delicacy that we recommend trying is the salchiqueño: a combination of fried yellow potatoes, German sausage and pieces of cheese tequeño. A strong option to share.
