Who are the winning and losing ministers?

It’s disillusionment for Together! which does not obtain an absolute majority for these legislative elections. Emmanuel Macron will have to deal with the left and the National Rally in the National Assembly. And it is also the cold shower for the government of Elisabeth Borne. Several ministers candidates for deputies lose during this second round. And as demanded by the President of the Republic, the beaten will have to leave their ministry.

The losers: Bourguignon, Montchalin…

The Minister of Health, Brigitte Bourguignon, was beaten by her rival from the National Rally, Christine Engrand, in the 6th constituency of Pas-de-Calais. She was left behind by just 56 votes.

Amélie de Montchalin, Minister for the Ecological Transition, candidate in the 6th constituency of Essonne, is also eliminated. Collecting around 47% of the vote, she fell to the candidate of Nupes, Jérôme Guedj, who gathered around 53% of the vote.

Justine Benin, Secretary of State for the Sea, was running for a second term in the 2nd constituency of Guadeloupe. She was credited with 41.35% of the vote, against 58.65% for her opponent, who had the support of the New People’s Ecological and Social Union.

Outside the category of ministers, several emblematic figures of the presidential majority admit defeat. Candidate for a third term, the president of the LREM group in the National Assembly Christophe Castaner was beaten in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. It is Léo Walter, the candidate of the Nupes who wins with a small 51.49% of the votes.

The President of the National Assembly (LREM) Richard Ferrand has admitted defeat in the 6th constituency of Finistère. “I have just taken note of the results […] and I extend my congratulations to the winner tonight and wish her every success,” he said. This is Mélanie Thomin de la Nupes.

The winners: Borne, Darmanin, Abad…

Running for a term for the first time, Elisabeth Borne won without brilliance in the 6th constituency of Calvados, against her competitor Nupes Noé Gauchard. She obtained 52.3% of the vote, according to Ifop, and thus won her seat as a deputy. A half-hearted victory then.

Solidarity Minister Damien Abad, whose campaign was disrupted by accusations of rape, was comfortably re-elected for his third term in Ain in the legislative elections. In the 5th constituency, he obtained 57.86% of the votes against the Nupes candidate Florence Pisani.

Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, won against Nupes represented by Leslie Mortreux, with 57.52% in the 10th district of the North. “A big thank you to them who thus reward our local presence and our national political will,” he wrote. on Twitter.

Clément Beaune, recently appointed Minister for Europe, narrowly passes. Against all expectations, he won the seat of deputy in the 7th district of Paris – 4th, 11th and 12th arrondissements – with 50.8% of the vote against 49.2% for the candidate of Nupes, Caroline Mecary.

The Minister of Transformation and the Public Service, Stanislas Guerini also won in the 3rd district of Paris. A title that was not won in advance since in the first round it was her competitor, Léa Balage El Mariky, from Nupes who came out on top.

The Minister of Public Accounts, Gabriel Attal, confirmed the advance obtained in the first round to be again elected deputy for the 10th district of Hauts-de-Seine. In total, he counts 62.8% of the votes, and thus beats his opponent from Nupes, Cécile Soubelet.

The minister delegate in charge of relations with Parliament, Olivier Véran, was re-elected in Isère with 57.7% of the vote against the candidate of Nupes, Salomé Robin. This is his second consecutive election.

A success also on the side of Frank Riester, Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Attractiveness, who tweeted: “53.21% of voters in the 5th district of #SeineEtMarne renewed their confidence in us. »

Marc Fesneau, Minister of Agriculture, candidate in the 1st constituency of Loir-et-Cher, was re-elected with 55.7% of the vote. And Olivier Dussopt, Minister of Labor, candidate in the 2nd constituency of Ardèche, elected deputy for the third time after 2012 and 2017 with 58.8% of the vote.
