Nael, killed by a policeman in Nanterre: “Nothing justifies the death of a young man,” says Macron.

“We have a teenager who has been killed, it is inexplicable, inexcusable,” President Emmanuel Macron reasoned this Wednesday following the death of Nahel, a 17-year-old who was the victim of a point-blank shooting by police on Tuesday in Nanterre. “Nothing, nothing justifies the death of a young man,” he said on the third day of his visit to Marseille.

“Justice was taken right away, I hope that it will quickly do its job and that the truth will be found as soon as possible,” the Head of State supported.

“We want the truth to be in the ministry and the national police, respecting the time of justice,” Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin also explained earlier this Wednesday. “We will make administrative decisions to suspend if ever the charges are retained”

“Let the truth pass”

The police officer charged with the Nahel shooting was taken into custody for premeditated murder on Tuesday evening. The agents initially claimed that the car Nahel was driving collided with them, before the video debunked their account.

Emmanuel Macron said the “emotions of the entire nation” as well as the “affection” and “respect” needed for Nahel’s family and loved ones. “In the face of such a tragedy, no comments, no manipulations can be tolerated. It takes respect, attention, for the truth to get through,” he says.

After the violence that night in Nanterre and several other cities, the President of the Republic also called for “calm”.

The lawyer for the victim’s family, Me Yassine Bouzrou, announced the complaints “in the coming days.” One will prosecute the author of the shooting for premeditated murder and his colleague for complicity. The other, for forgery in a public letter, will be filed against the police.
