Adrien Quatennens says he has “never forgiven himself” for the violence committed against his ex-wife

“I never forgave myself. » BFMTV guest this Sunday Adrian Quatennens was questioned about the domestic violence of which he is guilty against his ex-wife. Convicted in December 2022 and removed from La France insoumis for two months, the northern MP is having a hard time returning to the media scene.

He assured France 2 that he regretted portraying himself as a victim after being convicted. “I regret the words I chose to defend myself,” he told BFMTV. The day after his conviction, he denounced “media lynching” and also criticized his ex-wife and her “threats.”

On the other hand, he believes that he did not try to “minimize” his actions. “I never downplayed or trivialized my mistakes, I immediately regretted and admitted them. I didn’t wait for the court to charge me to admit it,” he said.

“Keep up this fight”

“Everyone can make mistakes,” says the man, who says he wants to be involved in the fight against violence against women, although he knows he cannot be a “leading figure” in the movement. “I have already fought this battle before, and I want to continue to fight it today. ” The now divorced MP also pointed out the obvious: “We shouldn’t lecture women who speak up. »

It ensures it supports women who are victims of violence and “extremely serious acts”. “I want to send a message to all the men in this country,” he said. I think we can all do better. »

Asked about the legitimacy of his return to the media sphere, Adrien Quatennens replied that “many French people wanted this return.” He was once considered the second-largest figure in the LFI after Jean-Luc Mélenchon, but his ranking logically fell due to his legal affairs. Does he consider himself his successor? “This is an ambition that many people attribute to me, but I have never stated it. »

On the other hand, he has made fighting the far right a priority. “We are in a fast race against the far right who are ahead of us,” he illustrated.
