Olympic Games 2024: government promises civil servants bonuses of 500, 1000 or 1500 euros

Civil Service Minister Stanislas Guerini is convinced of this. This Saturday, on the Franceinfo microphone, he said that “the whole country wants there to be no strikes” during the Olympic Games from July 26 to August 11. “I meet with many state employees, not one of them has told me of their intention to go on strike. This moment (of the Game) should be a moment of success for the nation. »

To respond to concerns, the former head of Renaissance announced the establishment of “a very consistent system of bonuses of 500, 1000, 1500 euros for all government officials who will be on site,” depending on the degree of their mobilization during this sequence.

These statements follow statements made by CGT on Thursday. Through her secretary general Sophie Binet, she confirmed the filing of a strike notice among civil servants after presenting the government with a “red card” and asked for a round table. She is particularly concerned about the control and working conditions of the “hundreds of thousands of workers affected” by the Games (bonuses, overtime supervision, holidays, placement of temporary workers), and says social dialogue is slipping away.

And also “10,000 universal checks”

At the same time, Stanislas Guerini assures that the government “will also support families.” In particular, through the creation of “10,000 universal checks” (200 euros per child, 350 euros per child for single-parent families) and the opening of places in nurseries and summer camps.

Will these promises be enough? Force Ouvrière, the second-largest civil servants’ union, also filed notice of a strike on Thursday, starting March 19, that could last throughout the Olympic and Paralympic period. On the side of the CFDT, a reformist union, leader Marilise Leon explained that she prefers a “time for negotiations” as it stands, but does not rule out the possibility of resorting to a strike if it fails.

The response of law enforcement officials should be closely monitored. At the end of January, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced a special bonus, which under certain conditions could reach 1,900 euros, for police officers and gendarmes working in Ile-de-France. What about municipal police? At the Paris City Hall, bonuses ranging from 600 to 1,900 euros have just been offered to municipal police, youth and cleanliness officers, among others.

Asked about the social climate in France and whether the International Olympic Committee (IOC) feared strikes, the president of the coordination commission, Pierre Olivier Bekkers, said he had “no fear” because “the dialogue is open.”
