Senegal vs. Burkina Faso LIVE: follow the semi-final of the African Cup of Nations MINUTE BY MINUTE

Only two games separate the teranga lions from their long-awaited first continental crown, and Aliou Cissé’s team reaches the semifinal having chained a streak of 11 games without knowing defeat (G8, E3), seven of them won by a margin of two or more goals.

Current runner-up, Senegal played a great game against Equatorial Guinea, advancing to the semi-finals despite conceding their first goal of the tournament (3-1). Two of their three CAN semi-finals this century went to extra time, and both ended in victory for the Senegalese side. This is his third CAN under Aliou Cissé, who was part of the team that lost the tournament final in 2002.

Although Burkina Faso’s goalscoring average in this CAN is only 1.0 goals per game, its ability to beat the rival’s goal early must be highlighted: the stallions have opened the scoring in the initial 45 minutes in each of their five games, coming into the break with a 1-0 lead in the last four. It is highly probable that the result of the duel with Senegal will also be tight; seven of their previous 11 meetings ended in draws (W2, L2).

Third semifinal in their last four appearances in the African Cup of Nations (CAN) for the Burkina Faso team, which won 1-0 against Tunisia in the quarterfinals. The two previous CAN semi-finals played by the Burkinabe team reached the penalty shootout (G1, P1), and considering that all their matches in this edition have been decided by a goal difference or ended in a draw, the coach Kamou Malo may have ordered his men to sharpen their aim from 11m ahead of Wednesday’s big clash.
