No podium for the tricolors, France still eleventh in the medal standings

No new French medal this Wednesday for the tricolor delegation at the 2022 Winter Olympics. The big disappointment of the day comes from Alexis Pinturault, in combined. Yet the big favorite of the event, the Frenchman fell during the slalom on Thursday. Silver medalist at the Pyeongchang Olympics in 2018, the Courchevel skier was aiming for gold in Beijing. “I’m sorry,” he said, in tears, in the mixed zone. Hit in the right shoulder, Alexis Pinturault will do everything to be at the start of the giant slalom, Sunday February 13, and the slalom scheduled for Wednesday February 16.

France remains in eleventh place in the medal table, still dominated by Germany (9 medals including 6 gold). Norway (12 medals including 5 gold) and Austria (13 medals including 4 gold) complete the podium.

The great story of the day is that of Johannes Strolz, who became Olympic champion in the combined. The Austrian, who almost ended his career a few months ago, won gold 34 years after his father. Hubert Strolz was crowned on the same event, in 1988, in Calgary, Canada.
