From the renewal of Gareca to conflicts in the TAS: the priorities of the FPF in 2022

One week after two months have elapsed since the new board of directors of the Peruvian Football Federation was elected, a process of changes and important decisions has begun. On Tuesday, the departure of Secretary General Óscar Chiri was made official, one of Agustín Lozano’s trusted men. The constant missteps in the Arbitration Court of Sport forced a reform in Videna. This week the new secretary will be defined, but there are many more pending in the FPF’s busy 2022 agenda.

1. Forty days to define a renewal

Contracts expire at the end of March. Ricardo Gareca and the sports director Juan Carlos Oblitas. The preliminary agreement with Agustín Lozano is to sit down and talk after the match with Paraguay for the Qualifiers. From this newspaper we have been able to collect the information that there is interest on both sides to renew the link. “Peru remains the priority”has repeated the ‘Tiger’ in recent months to disrupt any rumors about a pre-agreement with another team. “I want to be consistent, for us plan A has always been Ricardo”Oblitas answered us.

At the beginning of the week, information circulated on social networks about a possible pre-agreement between Gareca and the Colombian national team.

2. In three months, the TAS will show up at the FPF

They all correspond to demands from the Alianza Lima, Sporting Cristal, Melgar and Cienciano clubs.

One is due to the approval of the FPF statutes last year, another due to the calling of elections and finally a claim for holding the elections last December. “The hearings before the TAS are scheduled for May in Lima. By that time we could already have a scope of how that case will turn out “Julio García, a lawyer for these opposition clubs, responded to us.

The conflicts with the clubs are not only transferred to the TAS, but also to a dispute over commercial issues. A group of professional clubs have expressed their disagreement about how the Federation is handling the issue of marketing and sponsorships during the League 1 matches. That is another slope that begins to accumulate.

3 FPF Directive is not in Public Records

Agustín Lozano’s directory is not yet recognized by Public Records. At the beginning of this month, Sunarp sent an observation note to confirm that it will not recognize, for the time being, the elected board of the FPF. This situation is not atypical and has a known history. In 2006, Sunarp acted in the same way with the management of Manuel Burga.

“We want to correct the blemishes that Public Records put in the way of this procedure. It is known that blemishes will appear and what corresponds is to correct them. It was known in advance that it is a procedure that takes a certain time. It’s not automatic.” they answered us from the FPF.

SUNARP obituary addressed to the Peruvian Football Federation at the beginning of February.

4 Legitimacy to organize the U17 World Cup

Not having its directory recognized in Public Records complicates the autonomy of the federation to manage its finances (movements in its bank accounts) and even to sign agreements with the State or sign contracts. “It’s like dealing with two different universes, an FPF recognized in the sports field by FIFA and Conmebol and another at the State level where they are not recognized as a directory”, Garcia explains.

Let us remember that in 2023 our country will organize the U-17 World Cup and, for this, a letter of support from the Presidency of the Republic is required. In La Videna they have already formally requested the document from President Pedro Castillo. No answer yet.
