Diego Elías shines in squash: he qualified for the final of the Optasia Championship 2022

Peruvian sport continues to add important achievements and one of the protagonists these days has been Diego Elías, a specialist in the discipline of squash. During this week, the outstanding athlete has competed in great form at the Optasia Championship 2022 and this Thursday he secured his place in the grand final, after beating the Egyptian Mohamed ElShorbagy (No. 3 in the PSA ranking).

The aforementioned semifinal key had generated great expectations, given that two experts in this sporting branch were facing each other. As expected, the forces between the competitors were even and it was reflected in the disputed first game, which lasted longer than expected.

Finally, Diego Elías (No. 6 in the PSA ranking) prevailed 15-13, starting the series in the best way. The Peruvian athlete was highly motivated and showed his category in the following two stages: he won 11-1 and 11-7. In this way, after 45 minutes, the triumph of the representative of the ‘Blanquirroja’ was consummated by 3-0.

Now, the national athlete will have to compete for the trophy with the Egyptian Ali Farag (No. 2 in the PSA ranking) this Friday, March 11 (2:00 pm). It is worth mentioning that the African comes from eliminating Swiss Nicolas Mueller 3-0, with runs of 17-15; 11-5 and 11-4.

After adding a new victory, Diego Elías expressed his emotion and was concentrated to look for the first place. “I am very happy with my performance today. He was coming off a bad loss two weeks ago and yesterday he was nervous. I try to get back on my game, I’m very happy with this and ready for the final tomorrow”, indicated the squash specialist.
