Xavi’s analysis after thrashing Real Madrid: “I don’t think it’s enough to win LaLiga”

Barcelona categorically thrashed Real Madrid (0-4), in a new edition of the Clasico in LaLiga Santander. Xavi Hernández, coach of the ‘Azulgranas’, was highly praised and was very happy with the result, although at the same time he assured that it would probably not be enough for them to become champions.

In general, I am very happy. It is a day to enjoy. Apart from being the coach of Barcelona, I am ‘Culé’. These are spectacular experiences, so you have to enjoy it; and the fans too, because it is not easy to achieve victories of this type”, were the first words of the DT in a press conference.

Later, Xavi stressed that this has always been the footballing style that they intend to impose: “We try this in every game. The game model is clear. We want to recover the ball in the opposite field, apply high pressure, make everyone work”.

Beyond the 0-4, I am moved by how people run for the team, the work they do, how they train and I am sad because more players could not be in the game. This is to enjoy, it is a special day for Barcelona fans”, he added.

On the other hand, the Barcelona coach made it clear that his team cannot relax, despite a large result in favor: “Today we could go with the advantage and another day we could go 0-1, and we have to do the obligations. You have to run, you have to get to the side, you have to jump under pressure and that will make us bigger. Today we were 0-4 and it seemed like we were relaxing, but that’s not the case”.

Respect is that, because we could also reach a fifth or sixth goal, because we followed the plan. Not really because of the result, but because tighter games will come and we have to keep working”, said the technician.

Finally, Xavi Hernández confessed that the victory may not help them get the title: “This means three points. I think we also changed the dynamic a little bit. From that losing idea that Barcelona had in the Clásicos, today we show that we can compete, that we are at the level of the best. I don’t think it will be enough to win LaLiga Santander, although we are there, fighting”.

The first objective is to go to the Champions League and then we don’t rule anything out. Knowing that it is very difficult and we did not arrive in time to compete, but at least today it is an important blow for Barcelona. We’ve already competed very well in the Super Cup, we’ve also shown that we can play well against a Real Madrid on a roll, at their stadium. I am very proud of the team, satisfied. We have to keep improving. You have to keep paddling to get things”, sentenced the coach of the ‘Azulgranas’.
