Arteta lashes out at the referee after Arsenal fell: “They suspend me if I say what I think”

Arsenal’s goal is to secure fourth place in the Premier League to qualify for the next Champions League, but the picture was complicated by the abrupt defeat to Tottenham (3-0), a direct rival, in the North London Classic. After the match, Mikel Arteta, coach of the ‘Gunners’, spoke at a press conference and pointed at the referee.

“I’m authorized to give my interpretation of what happened in the game, but I don’t know how to lie, I don’t like to lie, so I prefer not to say what’s on my mind. If I say what I think, I get suspended for six months”, declared the Spanish coach before the press, clearly alluding to judge Paul Tierney.

“Unhappy with my players? No. I am very proud of all of them. Instead, I want to ask the referee to stand in front of the camera and explain his decisions. It’s a shame, because such a beautiful game was destroyed today”, added Mikel Arteta, notoriously upset.

Let’s remember that during the first half, Arsenal had a penalty against and Rob Holding was sent off for a double yellow card, which facilitated Tottenham’s victory. However, despite the bitterness over the defeat, the coach clarified that now they only focus on what is to come, so that they can secure a ticket to the 2022-23 Champions League.

“This game is history for us, I just said it in the locker room. We know how it got out of hand this time, we have to accept it. Now comes Newcastle and I can’t wait to play on Monday.
