A new path started for Mauro Zárate. The 35-year-old striker returned to Argentine football and had a great debut in the Platense shirt at home: he converted a penalty into the goal of the 2-1 win over Godoy Cruz. After the game, the player did not hide his emotion, but he also remembered his father’s bad health moment and shed some tears.
After the final whistle at the Ciudad de Vicente López Stadium in Buenos Aires, the scorer was interviewed by ESPN and expressed his feelings. “I always kick penalties, I like to execute and practice. This time I was able to score, give the team the victory”, began the former Boca Juniors attacker.
Immediately, Mauro Zárate mentioned his father and the complicated stage of health he is going through. “My old man is there, he is fighting. These are times when you have to put hue *** on it, these are things that happen and you have to be strong”, said the forward.
“I like challenges, I have that in my blood thanks to him (his father), because he is a fighter. He didn’t have a penny and he killed himself to feed us or to buy me a pair of boots. He is now fighting, as he has done all his life… I am supporting him, along with the whole family”, added the scorer, letting tears fall down his cheeks.
“THE CELEBRATION WAS FOR MY OLD MAN WHO IS FIGHTING HER”, Mauro Zárate broke down when talking about his father’s greeting and the sacrifice he made for him. EXCITING pic.twitter.com/xOqfAgMqoz
