One hundred games in the MLS regular season: Carlos Vela set an important record in the draw against the Sounders

A headed goal by Colombian Cristian Arango saved Los Angeles FC a point this Saturday at the Seattle Sounders (1-1) and kept the Los Angeles team at the top of the MLS Western Conference, on a day in which Mexican Carlos Vela played his hundredth game in the regular season.

Still without veteran Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, who arrived on a free week after his contract with Juventus Turin expired, LAFC avoided defeat against a Sounders in great form, who had just won four of their last five games.

The locals went ahead at game time thanks to the Slovakian Albert Rusnak, who punished a serious technical error by the rival goalkeeper, but Arango, with his second consecutive goal, and the fourth of his season, equalized in the final stretch.

It was the award for LAFC’s drive, which began the match without Mexican Carlos Vela, still with physical discomfort, and which gave way to the start of the second half.

The former player of the English Arsenal and the Royal Society of Spain, an absolute leader for Steve Cherundolo’s team, reached 100 games in the regular season with the Los Angeles club.

The 1-1 allowed LAFC to shield its leadership, with a five-point advantage over Dallas FC, and one more game.

The Sounders, in which the Colombian Fredy Montero, the Uruguayan Nicolás Lodeiro and the Ecuadorian Xavier Arreaga were starters, occupy the seventh position in the West, with 20 points, in full fight for the ‘playoffs’.
