Diego Elías remains firm in US Open Squash: Peruvian qualified for the semifinals of the tournament

Diego Elías continues to advance steadily in the US Open Squash, or the United States Squash Open in Spanish. This Thursday, the Peruvian defeated Joel Makin and ensured his presence in the semifinals of the most prestigious contest of this sport in the North American country.

The national representative, fourth in the world ranking of the Professional Squash Association, had to make a lot of effort to beat the Welshman, seventh on that list, who had started the match better than the Peruvian. The partials were 11-9 and a double 11-6.

After the meeting, the Professional Squash Association highlighted the “full range of strokes” from Peru, in an article published on its website. “He started using his signature grip to stop and start Makin’s move and force the world number 7 into a lot of difficult moves.”added the agency.

Completed the victory, Diego Elías was happy for the achievement. “I feel very good. I worked a lot during the summer and in the first tournaments I did not play my best, but I know that I am prepared and ready to win one of these big tournaments”said the 25-year-old athlete.

Now, Diego Elías will look for the ticket in the semifinals that will allow him to fight for the title in the final. On this occasion, the squash player will face the English Mohamed El Shorbagy, fifth in the world, this Friday, October 14.

It is important to mention that the national squashita ranks fourth in the world with 12555 points. First place goes to New Zealander Pablo Coll (17,925), followed by Egyptians Ali Farag (17,710) and Mostafá Asal (15,020), second and third, respectively.
