Unai Emery stopped being Villarreal coach to manage Aston Villa

After winning a Europa League and reaching the semi-finals in the Champions League, Unai Emery terminated his contract with Villarreal and signed as the new coach of the English Aston Villa, both clubs announced this Monday.

“Aston Villa are pleased to announce the appointment of Unai Emery as new manager”wrote ‘Los Villanos’ in a statement on their website, while the ‘Yellow Submarine’ confirmed the “unilateral termination” of the contract made by the Basque coach, who thus faces his second adventure in the Premier League after having passed through the Arsenal bench.

In this way, Emery says goodbye to Villarreal, the team with which he won the Europa League in 2021. The club, which is in 15th position in the Premier, specified that the Spaniard will take charge of the team from November 1 “when your work permit formalities have been completed.”

Villarreal’s announcement

“Villarreal CF wants to thank Emery for the work he has done and wishes him luck in his sports career”the Spanish box wrote on twitter

Last season he led Villarreal, a town of about 50,000 inhabitants, to the semifinals of the Champions League, eliminated by Liverpool on the verge of the final.

Emery and his history

50 years old, Emery is going to discover a new club in his career, after having coached Paris Saint-Germain or Sevilla, among others. With the Parisians he conquered Ligue 1 and with him he led the Andalusians to lift the Europa League three consecutive times, between 2013 and 2016.

In addition, with Arsenal, whom he managed for 18 months until 2019, he reached the Europa League final, lost to Chelsea.
