After a perfect end to 2022, 2023 couldn’t have started better for Alexis Mac Allister. On the bench ahead of Brighton’s FA Cup game against Middlesbrough (Championship 2nd Division), the Argentine world champion quickly turned things around as soon as he came into play after the break.
In the 58th minute, the number 10 allowed his team to make a break, scoring a great goal and bringing the score to 3-1. After a cross-kick from teammate Pervis Estupinyan, Alexis Mac Allister took the ball perfectly with a heeled volley and sent it motionlessly into the opposing goalkeeper’s side net.

A few weeks after lifting the World Cup trophy in Qatar, Alexis Mac Allister was able to celebrate a double. In the 80th minute, the Argentinean finally defeated Middlesbrough, scoring a goal 4:1.
This time it was a simple recovery at close range that enabled him to complete the great collective action and take part in the offensive concert of his people. Before scoring his second goal, he had already hit the post from a free kick less than ten minutes earlier.
“He’s a great player”
“The performance of Alexis (Mac Allister) came as no surprise to me, he is a great player,” his coach Roberto De Zerbi reacted after the meeting. “Even before the World Cup, I knew how important it was for us. He has the qualities to score a lot of goals. Today he played higher on the field,” he added.
With a 5-1 win at Middlesbrough, Brighton advanced to the 4th round of the FA Cup. The draw will take place this Sunday, the matches are scheduled for the period from 27 to 30 January.
