The judge must hear it. Brazilian footballer Dani Alves was taken into custody on Friday in Barcelona as part of an investigation against him on charges of sexual harassment, Catalonia’s regional police told AFP.
“He came this morning to the police station in Les Corts, the district of Barcelona, where “he was called. He has been taken into custody and is on his way to court,” said a spokesman for Mossos d’Esquadra, the Catalan police.
On January 10, Spanish justice announced the start of an investigation against the football player. The Barcelona court “launched an investigation into an alleged sexual offense following a complaint filed by a woman against a football player,” the Supreme Court of Catalonia (North East) announced, without mentioning the player’s name.
Facts exposed in a nightclub
A source familiar with the matter confirmed to AFP that it was indeed Dani Alves. The Catalan Regional Police said they had registered a complaint on January 2 from a woman accusing the footballer of touching him. According to the local press, the alleged facts took place in a nightclub in Barcelona on the night of December 30-31.
In a message sent to the Spanish channel Antena 3 on 5 January, the 39-year-old denied any criminal activity and said he did not know the complainant. Former Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain defender Alves spent a few days of vacation at Barcelona after participating in the World Cup in Qatar with the Brazilian selection and before returning to his current club Pumas de México.
