World Championships in Para Athletics in Paris: a day open to the general public for the J-100

France has already organized the World Championships in Athletics in 2002 in Villeneuve-d’Ascq and then in 2013 in Lyon. This year they will be held in Paris from 8 to 17 July. One hundred days before the start of the event, on Thursday, March 30, from 9:00 to 18:00, a big day of entertainment will be organized on Republic Square. A few highlights will spice up this day, open to the general public.

The village will open at 9 am. Several activities are planned in the process. There are many options: para-athletics, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, boccia, table tennis or even shot put. An athletics track with six lanes of 30 meters each will be installed in the center of the Republic Square.

Major Paralympic Event

There will be a concert at the beginning of the day. From 16:00 the time of the meeting with the athletes is scheduled. The public will be able to chat with them and ask for autographs. The village will close after that, at 18:00. The Organizing Committee of the World Para Athletics Championships wishes to make this event a day of initiation into the Paralympic sport.

These World Championships represent the second largest international Paralympic competition after the Paralympic Games. One year after Paris 2024, this event will be of great symbolic importance. For the organizing committee of the World Championships, this competition poses “serious challenges for the Paralympic movement, sports for the disabled and athletics.” Its goal is to “promote the high level of practice of paraathletics as well as make the event a responsible and dedicated event.”
