“The disease is fought like an adversary”: the last fight of boxer Anthony Bosher against the HLA B27 gene

About a decade ago, Anthony Bosch, a resident of Deauville, acted as a territorial agent in Ile-de-France. A boxing enthusiast, he trained at a club in Levallois-Perret. He then suffered from severe pain and the diagnosis fell! “I am a carrier of the HLA (human leukocyte antigen) B27 gene. I have axial ankylosing spondylitis, a progressive inflammatory disease that affects the joints and organs. After a few months, I could not resume boxing,” recalls this resident of Era. And yet, on Saturday, June 24, during the grand boxing gala organized at the Palais des Sports of Kindarena in Rouen, Anthony Bocher will enter the ring to fight.

Anthony Bocher, living in Beauzeville with his wife and two children for five years, saw the disease develop “until I was stuck in a wheelchair and walking with a cane.” “The disease is gaining momentum, but I did not want to stop there! Always passionate about boxing, I said to myself: Why not challenge me to the last fight. So he got his license from the Beuzeville Boxing Bodybuilding Club. There he met professional boxer Lancelot Proton de la Chapelle: “He immediately warned me that the pace would be sustained. It gave me even more motivation for this crazy bet.”

Thus, since January 2022, Anthony Bosher has been training twice a week during a session of cardio, technique, agility and an encounter with an opponent. “The first training session lasted thirty minutes. Now I want an hour and a half. For the second session, I put on the gloves along with the other licensees. I complete my fitness by cycling 30 kilometers every weekend. I have to be ready to fight three times two minutes with my opponent, a young boxer from Aigle (Orne), who was recently diagnosed with the same disease. »

According to his trainer, “Anthony has made a lot of progress and this is thanks to workouts that are not very suitable, except in cases of severe pain. I don’t want to put it in a box. I treat him like an average boxer and you can see that he has already put on gloves, especially during shadow sessions (vacuum boxing). I find it fantastic to see how these people struggle with their pathology and do not give up in the face of life’s difficulties thanks to the noble art and all these values associated with sports, discipline and respect. Anthony is a beacon of hope.

This is the message that Anthony Boscher wants to convey to the general public, in addition to the sporting achievement: “I immediately wanted to make a documentary about this. A team of seven videographers was formed to accompany me at home, at work and in the boxing gym through ups and downs. A form of countdown to the final gong, a story written as crises and laughter. I want to raise public awareness by spreading it among associations, schools and also among medical professionals. I would like this film to give strength to all the sick. Show that the disease is fought both with the enemy and against oneself. This is also my way of dealing with omerta. The first broadcast is expected in December 2023.
