Here is the itinerary of the new Women’s Tour de France 2022

The Women’s Tour de France is back. Presented this Thursday morning in Paris, the event will take place immediately after the men’s tour, from 24 to 31 July 2022. Tour de France, or almost, because the women’s event will be mainly a tour of the east of the country. This tour will not last three weeks, but only 8 days, the classic format for a women’s event (the Giro lasts 10 days): “This does not only mean that in the future it will always last 8 days,” explains Marion Rousset, the new boss.

See you on Sunday July 24th on your flight to Paris, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. The first leg will run 100% on the Seine and Marneuse between Meaux and Provins. Then head to the east of France and the city of the mysteries of kings and champagne. Reims will start the next stage towards Epernay. Destination Troyes, Bar-sur-Aube, Bar-le-Duc. So why, by the way, east? “We had to find a mountain range,” continues Marion Rousse. After 8 days, starting from Paris, it became obvious that we had to go to the Vosges. Let’s start with the origins of the Tour: in 1906 it passed through the Alsatian ball. This is what we are going to do. »

This women’s Tour de France will arrive in the Vosges, not Paris, at the Planche des Belles Filles, where Tadej Pogacar won his first Tour of 2020, the day before arriving at the Champs Elysées: “This race will have to exist for another 100 years. years, instead of six, as in previous releases, says Christian Prudhomme, director of the men’s tour. A priori, it will always take place in the last week of July, with the exception of the Olympic years. »

Each day, the Girls’ Tour legs will be broadcast live for 2.5 hours in 170 countries, compared to 190 for men. This Tour de France seems well-born: “The route is balanced,” continues Marion Rus. Suitable for sprinters, punchers. The last weekend will be very difficult, in particular with an altitude difference of 3000m on the last day. We drew it to keep the intrigue to the end. »
