“In Brazil little is known about Peru and its coach”; “Guerrero is the player of concern”, this is how they look at the Bicolor to face Scratch | DT SURVEY

In the last four results in Lima against Brazil in the Qualifiers, Peru did not obtain a victory. They only beat him in the 2016 Copa América and in a friendly in 2019. Now, with several casualties, the outlook is complicated, but not impossible for the white and red illusion.

With all this background, El Comercio sought the opinion of different Brazilian journalists to answer these questions.

1: How do you analyze Diniz’s Brazil debut? Is it something to get excited about?

2: What do they know and think in Brazil about Juan Reynoso’s Peru?

3: Is Paolo Guerrero, at 39 years old, a forward that the Brazilian defense should take into account? Could his hierarchy make Diniz take precautions?

4: Why isn’t Neymar as idolized as Ronaldinho, for example, if he is Brazil’s all-time top scorer?

5: Can Neymar be considered an idol in Brazil?

Thiago Lima – Globoesporte

1.- Here, public opinion was satisfied with Diniz’s debut. A lot of time on the ball, many situations to break the defense, many goals and almost no problems in defense. It’s enough to get excited, but we must keep in mind that Bolivia was far from being a worthy rival. The press still wants to see if he can play in the same way against higher-ranking rivals.

2.- We know that Peru will be a tougher rival than Bolivia was. Due to the technical quality of its players and also for playing at home, with its fans. Reynoso replaced Gareca a year ago and maintained the team structure, but with the return of Paolo Guerrero they have played well and were better than Paraguay, they deserved to win on the first date.

3.- It certainly has to be taken into account. Despite him not being the same scorer at 39 years old, you have to be careful because he is a scorer. But I don’t think Diniz is going to change the way he plays. I just remembered Diniz’s debut with Fluminense in the Copa Libertadores against Sporting Cristal, when he played with courage to attack. I think he will try to do the same on Tuesday.

4.- Perhaps because Neymar did not become everything that people expected when he emerged as a great star at Santos. All Brazilians hoped that Neymar would one day be the best player in the world, like Ronaldinho, because he would have the potential for this. For some time now people no longer believe it is possible. The decision to leave Europe and play in Saudi Arabia was also highly criticized in Brazil. But he never stopped being idolized here.

5.- Yes, he is an idol. Definitely.

Leonardo Bertozzi – ESPN Brazil

1.- In Brazil there is a lot of distrust due to the 20 years without winning a World Cup, it will be 24 if it does not win in 2026 (like between 1970-1994). The last World Cups were lost against the first most difficult European team, so there is a certain fear that it will happen again, even if there are good qualifying rounds. Diniz proposes a style of soccer that soccer fans like, creative and aggressive. But at this moment it is only a stage until Ancelotti, the chosen one of the CBF, is free, who believes that an already winning coach is necessary in the football elite.

2.- Little is still known about this new Peru, although what it did in the last cycles with Gareca is greatly respected. The great reference for Brazilians continues to be Paolo Guerrero, because of his history here.

3.- They will try to prevent Guerrero from getting the ball, and for that Brazil will try to keep him in the attack, press high, not give up the field.

4.- Ronaldinho, first of all, won a World Cup at the age of 22. The Brazilian fan is used to winning and sees winners differently. That is still expected of Neymar.

5.- He is an idol for many, yes, but it is not unanimous. He sees Neymar as very immature, even though he is 31 years old and it was a disappointment that he has chosen to play in France and now in Saudi Arabia, outside of the big leagues.

1.- Really, Brazil’s debut with Diniz gives the fans a lot of excitement, because we saw some interesting things that are part of his work, like some well-worked plays, players always close and he always has someone on the wings. These are things that are part of Diniz’s work and that we always saw here in Brazil with his teams like Fluminense, Sao Paulo and Paranaense. Diniz is capable of putting his work at any level like today at the highest level that is the Brazilian team, that is why we are very excited, because the philosophy that Diniz has is that of the beautiful game that was lost in Brazil for a time . The team goes forward to play and with many players in the attacking zone, despite the fact that Bolivia is a weak and fragile rival, what excites people is seeing Brazil playing with some of Diniz’s ideas.

2.- Here what is thought about the selection of the Peruvian team is that it is going to be a more complicated opponent unlike Bolivia. It is a team that is going to fight to be in the next World Cup, in its stadium, with its people, since it is a strong rival. Add to that, the fans they have and the strength they have is incredible. In recent years he has been a tough opponent for Brazil, it will not be different this time. It is only the second game that Brazil is adapting to what Diniz wants and Peru will bring defensive difficulties to the Brazilian team, which did not happen with Bolivia, even though they scored a goal against us. But that is a theme of Diniz’s work, how his philosophy is to play forward, that he always wants to come out playing from the goalkeeper’s feet. Sometimes he concedes some goals and if I have to say something about Fernando’s work it is that defensively he is not as good as offensively and it will be a challenge to face a team that will undoubtedly fight and attack Brazil.

3.- Paolo Guerrero has shown that he is at a good level. He played against Sao Paulo for LDU and had a good game showing that he is at a good level, regardless of his age. Diniz knows very well what that is because in Fluminense he has players of that age, that he is playing a lot like the goalkeeper Fábio, Felipe Melo, that even Fluminense has just renewed his contract due to the high level that he has been showing. Diniz knows Paolo very well, since he is a player who will undoubtedly cause him concerns.

4.- It is a very good question but there are two different worlds in relation to Neymar. Yesterday in Belén, Neymar was the most applauded by the fans. There were thousands of people at the hotel who wanted to see him and greet him. Likewise, in the stadium he was applauded, since he has a lot of affection from the people, that is, Neymar awakens the love and hate of the people in Brazil. People from the north are more affectionate, while people from the southeast and south are people who are more accustomed to seeing a Brazilian team and do not treat them with much affection at times, as in social networks they have a lot of authority and from there makes a lot of impression.

5.- I see Neymar and he is an idol in Brazil, very loved by many people and the children love him. In general, the Brazilian has a lot to say about the World Cup and that being the best in the Qualifiers is worth nothing if he doesn’t win the World Cup. The people of this generation were left in disbelief, because in ’94 Brazil won, in ’98 they reached the final, and in 2002 they won. I think people are bad habits and see a generation that doesn’t achieve things, but Neymar is the most important man in the last 15 years, so the frustration is understandable. People were waiting for Neymar to lead Brazil to win another World Cup. Today Brazil is a country that you love something or hate, there are no half-hearted things and that’s why those things happen.

Cicero Mello – ESPN Brazil

1.- Diniz’s debut was considered very good. Brazil had the greatest ball possession in many years for the team, with 80% possession. The team played very offensive football, as is typical of Diniz in his clubs. On the other hand, Bolivia’s rival is a very weak team and, therefore, Brazil’s victory cannot deceive the fans.

2.- In Brazil, little is known about the Peruvian team and Reynoso, its coach. But the draw against Paraguay as a visitor shows that the Brazilian team will find it much more difficult to play in Lima in the next match.

3.- Paolo Guerrero is highly respected in Brazil, for what he did playing for Corinthians and Flamengo. But at Internacional he was not the same player again after a serious injury and also after the suspension for doping. Now, at the end of his career, he deserves all the attention, but nothing more than concern for other Peruvian attackers.

4.- Neymar causes a lot of division in Brazil. Everyone recognizes that he has a lot of talent and importance, but his attitudes off the field do not please anyone. He doesn’t take care of himself, he’s not professional and he doesn’t respect anyone. In Brazil there is no middle ground: People love it or hate it! He’s not even close in terms of idolization compared to other players like Ronaldo ‘Fenomeno’, Ronaldinho and Romario. The historical scorer is by FIFA: Pelé scored 95 goals with the Brazilian team and Neymar 79, but FIFA does not consider Pelé’s goals in unofficial matches.

5.- Neymar is an idol, but only for around 50% of Brazilians.
