Flu, Covid-19, human papillomavirus… this year’s vaccination calendar

Should I get a vaccine? You no longer have to go to your doctor: you can now go directly to your pharmacist if you are over 11 years old. The measure provided for in the Social Security Financing Act 2023 now applies following the publication of several decrees on August 9, 2023.

Here are the main recommended and therefore possible vaccinations at pharmacies in the coming weeks or years, provided the specialist has been trained in administering the vaccines.

Flu

From the moment when? From October 17.

Recommended for whom? People at “risk”, that is, people aged at least 65 years, people who are younger but suffer from serious illnesses or have concomitant diseases (a full list can be found in the 2023 vaccination calendar), pregnant women, and people carers, in special.

COVID-19

From the moment when? From October 17, simultaneously with flu vaccination (unless the date is postponed, as provided by the Minister of Health Aurélien Rousseau, depending on the epidemic situation).

Recommended for whom? The same people are “at risk” as those who received a flu shot.

Infections caused by human papillomavirus (HPV)

From the moment when? Any time during the year, from October 2 in colleges.

Recommended for whom? All adolescents aged 11 to 14 years (hence the fact that the vaccination campaign is organized directly at school), as well as men who have sex with men under 26 years of age.

Diphtheria, tetanus, polio (DTP)

From the moment when? In any season.

Recommended for whom? Booster vaccination is recommended at ages 11 to 13, 25 years, 45 years, 65 years, 75 years, 85 years, etc. The interval increases to ten years due to the faster decline in vaccine effectiveness.

Choking cough

From the moment when? In any season.

Recommended for whom? A reminder from the age of 25 against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, catching up is possible up to 39 years.
