“I wasn’t worried that Paolo wouldn’t score goals: I saw his game and how he added positively to the LDU locker room” | INTERVIEW

What do Liga de Quito think about his level? El Comercio called the President of the LDU Commission, Esteban Paz, to talk to us about Paolo Guerrero’s work so far this season.

-Paolo Guerrero returned to the goal and demonstrated his hierarchy against Defensa y Justicia, did you really make him feel the pressure why things might not go well with him? What can you tell us about that?

I wasn’t worried about him not scoring goals, because I saw his actions, I saw his internal relationship and how he positively affected the group, a player in Paolo’s hierarchy. So I wasn’t worried, but of course the pressure and criticism were beginning to fall on him and that could surely in some way affect his environment and performance, but we knew that it was a matter of time and he would let go. There was no worry, but peace of mind in seeing his actions that somehow were going to work.

– How long do you have a contract with LDU and do you plan to extend the relationship?

The contract with Paolo Guerrero is until the end of the year, apparently and the way Paolo is adapting and adapting to the internal culture of LDU, of course we would talk, since there is an intention on both sides to renew the contract for a period dragged on.

– Did ‘Chorri’ Palacios or Juan Carlos Oblitas recommend Paolo Guerrero?

Paolo’s recommendation does not come from any player or technical director of Peru, precisely, it comes more recommended from our coach Luis Francisco Zubeldía, who when he saw his departure from Racing, contacted the Racing leaders, I understand that the ‘Mago’ Capria , where Luis has many friends, because he was there as technical director and that made him full of information about all aspects related to Paolo. Both in the sporting, physical and medical part, and everything gave a very positive report, right?

-How much do people love Paolo Guerrero?

Paolo Guerrero arrived in Quito, Ecuador and caused a major sensation. He has a brand built over so many years of career, it is an international brand not only in Peru but in the world, and of course it attracted attention and was a factor of a lot of media exposure. Then, with the goal he scored in Chile immediately after his arrival, it was another boost to be able to have greater media exposure. Afterwards, he had several games without a goal, some playing very well more than others, but playing very good football and being a good contribution, however, the lack of goal had to receive some criticism and I think that that criticism ends up being diluted with the tremendous effort and quality that he showed in the Copa Sudamericana match, scoring those two goals and with that more than well ratified his hiring and exposure.

– Have you thought about reinforcing yourself with another Peruvian player? At some point there was talk about Yotun, is there still interest in him or are you thinking about another Peruvian?

Look yes: we talked about the possibility of hiring Yoshimar Yotun, unfortunately it was a moment of indecision, there was no internal negotiation for the League player called Sebastián González and we were going to overpopulate the position, that’s why we made the decision not to incorporating another player in that case was Yotun, furthermore, with the disadvantage that the Copa Sudamericana playoffs played and with that he could no longer be registered.

– Did you receive the letter from Paolo Guerrero to be called up for the matches against Chile and Argentina?

We have not received any call-up for Paolo yet, I assume that if he performed well in the last call-up, it is most likely that he will be called up again.
