The Surfing Federation is withdrawing its support for the Kanezhan wave pool project.

Two pools with a total capacity of 20,000 m3, capable of creating waves over 1.30 m high. On paper, the Sliding Academy project, self-sufficient in water and energy thanks to rainwater recovery and photovoltaic energy, promises to combine sport and ecology. Having received the green light from health authorities, the city of Canezhan, located in the metropolis of Bordeaux (Gironde), signed a construction permit in February 2023.

But the announced drinking water consumption figures of 13,318 m3/year did not convince either local residents or environmental associations, who filed an appeal with the administrative court of Bordeaux at the end of July. They just received the results of tests conducted by an independent researcher. Verdict? “Consumption will be ten to twelve times higher than stated,” complains Remi Petit of the Canéjan entransition collective.
