Winner of the 2014 Brazil World Cup with Germany, Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos announced via social networks, this Thursday, February 22, 2024, his return to the national team, a few months before the start of the Euro 2024 in his country.
“Hello guys, to put it quickly and clearly, I will play again with the German national team starting in March. Because? Because the coach has asked me to and because he wants me to.”the player, who had ended his international career in 2021 after 106 caps, wrote on his Instagram.
“I’m sure we can do a lot more with this team at the Euros than most people think.”he added.
German coach Julian Nagelsmann left open the possibility last December of recalling Kroos, 34, after the player himself admitted it was something he had thought about.
His return would bring experience to a group rebuilding after the end of their golden generation of world champions in 2014. Germany will face France and the Netherlands in friendlies in March, before playing ‘their’ Euro Cup at home.
