The Taliban publicly execute two people “an eye for an eye”

The de facto government of Taliban in Afghanistan executed this Thursday in a football stadium two inmates convicted of murder applying the “eye for an eye” rule, which rewards the criminal with the same damage caused.

Also known as “remuneration“was perpetrated against two people in a stadium in the province of Ghazniin the south of Afghanistanreported in a statement the Court Afghan Supreme.

According to the court, the case “He was prosecuted by three separate courts, and each court issued the sentence of execution.”which was later approved by the Taliban’s top leader, Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada.

The statement adds that the execution was carried out against “two killers”, both accused of having killed two other people with a knife in separate cases.

According to “remuneration”, both people should be executed in the same way they committed the crime.

In the previous Taliban regime, between 1996 and 2001, which put an end to American invasionpublic executions were a common practice in Afghanistan as a way of raising awareness among the population about the high price they would pay if they committed a crime.

The old stadium Gazi in Kabul It was one of those spaces used for public executions, where every Friday, after prayer in the mosque, a crowd gathered to watch the macabre spectacle.

In front of around 20 thousand people shouting “Allah-u-Akbar!” (God is great), explained the Taliban, with loudspeaker in hand, the crime for which they had condemned the prisoner, displayed before an enthusiastic audience in the center of the playing field and then executed or, at best, cut his head.

However, the number of public executions appears to have been reduced during the Taliban’s second period in power, which began in August 2021.

The first of this new phase took place in December 2022 in the western province of Fara, while the second execution took place last June in the province of Laghman.
