2024 Olympic Games in Paris: why Riner, Agbenen, Mbappe, Dupont and even Karabatic will not be standard bearers

A selection of standard bearers (male and female) without French sports stars? This is exactly where the French Olympic Committee is heading, which will announce this Wednesday the criteria chosen to select who will lead the impressive tricolor selection during the Olympic Games in Paris (July 26 to August 11).

The standard bearer will not be Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Dupont or Victor Wembanyama, three prominent French athletes known to the general public but who have never competed in the Olympic Games. Because one of the criteria for applying is to have already participated in a major Olympic stage. Another condition: candidates should not be flag bearers in the past. In fact, two more stars are dropping out: Teddy Riner, head of the delegation in Rio 2016, and Clarisse Agbenenou, who succeeds him in Tokyo in 2021 (she shared the role with gymnast Samir Ait Said, who will not be renewed).
