This is how Spain arrives

Barcelona’s young center back Pau Cubarsí, along with Dani Vivian, are the big news on Spain’s list for the friendly matches against Colombia and Brazil, announced this Friday by coach Luis de la Fuente.

Cubarsí, 17 years old, attends his first call-up with the Spanish team, whose roster De La Fuente revealed through a video on the social networks of the Spanish Federation (RFEF).

The center-back dazzled last Tuesday in the Champions League match against Naples, in which Barça qualified for the quarterfinals and his presence with La Roja was almost taken for granted.

“All of us who have seen Pau play know what a footballer he is, the category he has,” De la Fuente said at a press conference, after announcing his call-up.

“We knew him from the youth teams, we are not surprised by what he is doing and can do because he has great potential,” considered the Spanish coach.

De la Fuente downplayed the fact that he is only 17 years old, ensuring that “we don’t look at the ID card, only the performance.”

“Now he is in a great moment and it gives us hope for the present because we have to win these two games, and for the future because of what is to come,” said the Spanish coach.

The other big news is the call to Athletic Club defender Dani Vivian, 24, who will also make his debut with La Roja if De la Fuente gives him minutes in one of the two games.

Among the names returning are Tottenham defender Pedro Porro, who returns a year after his last appearance with the national team, in the 2-0 defeat against Scotland in a qualifying match for the Euro Cup, or Villarreal attacker Gerard Dark.

– “Brahim wanted to be with Morocco” –

The shadow of Real Madrid midfielder Brahim and his choice to play for Morocco flew over the call-up, after a few days of controversy in the Spanish press about whether the player had demanded to know if he would go with Spain or not.

“Brahim has not demanded anything from me personally because he had nothing to demand, he was already clear that he wanted to be with Morocco,” De la Fuente explained.

“On March 1 I give a preliminary list, where he is. There is a document from March 9 in which he renounces playing with Spain, he has decided to play with Morocco and I could not bring him” for these two games, said De la Fuente.

Spain will face Colombia on March 22 in a friendly match in London, before facing Brazil four days later at the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid.

This last meeting was organized as a friendly against racism under the motto ‘One Skin’, after the episodes of racist insults suffered by the Real Madrid player Vinicius.

“In this last match we will unite in the fight against racism, that is why we will facilitate the list in a slightly special way, it will be people of different nationalities who give the names of the players,” said De la Fuente in the video with the that the list was published.

“We want football to be a union and make it clear that we all play with the same skin,” added De la Fuente.
