Paris 2024 Olympics tennis: Andy Murray will come to Paris for his fifth games

Retirement will wait until at least the end of the Olympics. Andy Murray will take part in his fifth Olympic Games in Paris. The announcement was made this Sunday by the British Olympic Organization (BOA).

Andy Murray is among four candidates selected for the men, along with Jack Draper, Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans. The 37-year-old Scot, who has dropped to 97th in the world due to physical problems, particularly his hip, took advantage of an invitation from the International Federation (ITF), reserved for former Olympic champions or Grand Slam winners.

Raducanu refuses the invitation

A double gold medalist at London 2012 and Rio 2016, he is the only player in history to retain his title at the Olympics. He also has a silver medal in mixed doubles with Laura Robson. In addition to the singles, Murray will take part in the doubles tournament with Daniel Evans.

In the women’s category, Great Britain will be represented by Katie Boulter, while Emma Raducanu declined the invitation. The 2021 US Open winner, who recently had wrist and ankle surgery, explained that she is not 100% physically ready to compete in the tournament, weeks after already withdrawing from Roland Garros. “She thinks now is not the right time for her. I hope she has many more Games to come. “I am very pleased with his decision,” reacted Ian Bates, head of the British Olympic team.
