Joy for Chile: Christiane Endler was chosen the best goalkeeper in the world in The Best of FIFA

The Chilean Christiane Endler has been chosen for the first time as the best goalkeeper in the world at The Best of FIFA 2021 gala that is being held at its headquarters in Zurich. The captain of the Chilean national team came close before, after finishing second in the previous two editions.

Endler, who was surpassed in previous years by the Dutch Sari van Veenendaal and the French Sarah Bouhaddi, was chosen this time ahead of the German Ann-Katrin Berger and the Canadian Stephanie Lynn Marie Labbé.

The 30-year-old Chilean national team goalkeeper was declared the best goalkeeper in the French league after winning the title with PSG after conceding just four goals throughout the tournament. In addition, he reached the Champions League. He also participated in the Tokyo Olympics, where he stood out with the Red.

Endler acknowledged that he was “very happy” for obtaining this award to the third and very “proud” for being the first Latin American to achieve it, and assured that her goals are to win the Champions League with Lyon and for the Chilean team to continue its growth.

Chilean Christiane Endler is not only the best goalkeeper of the year. The current Lyon goalkeeper is listed in the 11th FIFA FIFPRO 2020-2021, along with Argentina’s Estefanía Banini, a former player for Levante and now at Atlético de Madrid, and Brazil’s Marta from Orlando Pride.

The selection has been made with the votes of a total of 3,675 soccer players who play at the highest level in 46 countries and the absence of Barcelona players stands out in view of their spectacular season.
