Ms. Pac Man, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Dance Dance Revolution and civilization They have become the new members of the Hall of Fame of the Video game this year.

The Video Game Hall of Fame is an initiative promoted by The Strong National Museum of Play (United States), an interactive museum that brings together the largest and most complete collection of the history of the game in all its aspects.

Each year, The Strong selects four video games that go on to enter its Hall of Fame based on their sustained popularity over time and their influence on the industry, popular culture, and society.

In 2022, the honor has gone to Ms. Pac-Man, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Dance Dance Revolution and Civilization, the museum confirmed on Twitter on Thursday.

The senior archivist, Julia Novakovic, explains in a statement on the agency’s website that Ms. Pac-Man helped “promote” the enjoyment of the video game “among all genders” by offering “the first widely recognized female video game character” in the industry.

Regarding Dance Dance Revolution, the person in charge of video game conservation, Lindsey Kurano, points out that “Music has been an integral part of human life since prehistoric times”which for her comes to explain the popularity of this title that “spanned ages, genders and regions.”

In the case of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, digital game curator Andrew Borman states that “even today developers around the world continue to acknowledge the influence” of this title “when it comes to creating video games”, thanks to elements such as “the expanding 3D world, the fluid combat, the complex puzzles and the story that changes time”.

Regarding Civilization, the director of the Center for the History of Electronic Games at Strong International, John-Paul Dyson, recalled that “the addictive nature of the gamewhich creator Sid Meier himself called the quality of ‘one more turn’, and its almost unlimited options that prevent repetitive gameplay, earned Civilization the recognition of ‘Computer Gaming World’ as the best video game of all time in 1996 ″.

Last March, the museum shared the 2022 candidates and opened the system of public vote so that the players themselves chose the video games that should be immortalized for their special weight.
