The Kremlin has put Vladimir Zelensky on the wanted list

Russia has put Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on the wanted list without disclosing motives, according to an announcement published Saturday on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The leader is wanted “under an article of the Criminal Code,” we read in this short text, which says nothing more about the essence of these charges.

Since February 2022, Russia has been waging an offensive against Ukraine, which it presents, in part, as a fight against a “Nazi” power. Vladimir Zelensky is particularly under attack from Russian officials. The day after the attack began, President Vladimir Putin called on the Ukrainian army to overthrow him.

Well stocked list

The list of people wanted by Russia is very extensive and includes Russian and foreign figures, in particular Ukrainians. In February, the name of Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas was added. In September 2023, the 46-year-old lawyer, who does not hide her desire to become the head of NATO, according to the Associated Press, proposed introducing a trade embargo on countries bordering Russia, Poland and Finland.

This list also included other officials from the Baltic countries. To justify this decision, the Kremlin cited the opposing view of history held by Moscow and these states. The Baltic countries, fearful of the Kremlin’s military ambitions, believe that the USSR occupied them, while Moscow considers itself a liberator and considers any other approach a “falsification of history,” a crime in Russia.
