Google has announced that it has introduced a new feature in google-meet that allows you to transcribe a video call and generate a document in Google Docs with that text.

Automatic translations, which had been tested for months in the Google Meet beta, were then extended to its user base, although they could only be used in video calls in which English was spoken.

Now, under Google Cloud Next 2022, Google has announced that it has introduced a system capable of transcribing a videoconference developed in Google Meet in a Google Doc.

The transcribed file will be saved in the ‘Meet Recordings’ folder of the organizers or hosts’ Google Drive, a storage system similar to that of the audio and video recordings already present in Meet.

The company has pointed out that this functionality can only be accessed when using this video conferencing service on a desktop or laptop computer, so it is not yet available in the mobile version.

For now, automatic transcriptions to a text document are only available in English. In meetings with 200 participants or less, the hosts or the user who started the transcript will receive a link to this file via email at the end of the video meeting.

This transcript will also be automatically attached to the Google Meet calendar, in the previously created video call invitation.

However, for meetings with more than 200 invitees, the generated text of the video conference will only be shared with the meeting organizers, as well as the individual users who have started the transcript.

Google has also noted that for recurring meetings, transcript documents will be added automatically to calendar invitations.

In addition, you have pointed out that before joining a meeting, attendees will receive a notification informing them that the transcription service is activated.
