Does Netflix want to be the new Stadia?: The company plans to create its own cloud gaming service

Netflix has confirmed that it is considering offering its subscribers a new cloud gaming offering, a service it would launch as a “value added” to currently available consoles.

Currently, the streaming service has a series of exclusive titles for mobile phones, both with Android and iOS operating systems, available in their corresponding application stores, Play Store and App Store.

These titles, among which Stranger Things: 1984 and Teeter Up stand out, are placed at the bottom of the service interface, in a carousel format, and are included in the Netflix subscription, without additional charges.

At the end of last August, the company posted a series of job openings that suggested it was working on a new cloud gaming platform. These jobs were advertised both on LinkedIn and on their own website.

So the company did not confirm that it was planning to launch this service, until now, when Netflix’s vice president of gaming, Mike Verdu has confirmed to TechCrunch Disrupt that Netflix “is seriously exploring a cloud gaming offering”.

The manager stressed that this product “it is an added value” to consoles and that it does not intend users to subscribe to it “as a replacement” of these platforms. “It is a completely different business model”has added.

As per this ad, The announcement of the closure of Stadia, Google’s cloud video game service, has been recalled. Verdú has recognized that the problems registered in this service could be due to commercial models, not to the type of technology used by the Pixel manufacturer, which he has described as “a technical success”.

On the other hand, The manager has taken the opportunity to confirm that Netflix maintains its focus on the gaming field with the opening of a new in-house studio in California and another that has taken to Helsinki (Finland). Likewise, it has been announced that the company is currently working on 55 new self-developed video games for the platform.
