Intel has shared a sneak peek of the next generation Thunderbolt connector, which offers 80Gbps bi-directional bandwidth following the USB4 2.0 specifications, released on Wednesday.
The Thunderbolt prototype developed with the specifications of USB4 2.0 is a preview of what its final construction will offer consumers: up to three times the capacity of Thunderbolt 4, as detailed by Intel on its official blog.

It will have support for DisplayPort 2.1 and will be backwards compatible with Thunderbolt, USB, and DisplayPort. And it will work with passive cables up to one meter.
It will provide bidirectional transfer speeds of 80Gbps, doubling the total bandwidth of Thunderbolt4, and up to three times the bandwidth at 120Gbps for video-intensive uses, as detailed from Intel. It will also double the data throughput of PCI Express.
The company has announced that it will offer more information about the next generation of the Thunderbolt connector in 2023.
