Do you like to sleep at the office?

Maybe you’d feel better if your boss arranged things like a wardrobe and a washing machine for you.

That appears to be happening on Twitter as the social media giant continues its restructuring under new owner Elon Musk.

The billionaire reportedly spends many nights at Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters and has made sure his employees can do the same.

Since the acquisition, Musk has reduced Twitter’s workforce from more than 7,000 to about 2,500. Those who stayed were asked to sign a statement committing themselves to a new “hardcore” version of the social network.

Reports surfaced last week of office space being converted into bedrooms, and now photos are circulating showing exactly what it looks like.

BBC reporter James Clayton received footage of the impromptu excavation and posted it (where else?) on Twitter.

Since the first reports surfaced, the City of San Francisco has begun investigating the allegations, as Twitter’s office is a commercial building and not intended for residential use.

Musk himself tweeted in response, indicating that San Francisco has bigger things in mind than employees who voluntarily sleep at their workstations.

According to Clayton, Musk himself took a conference room that had been converted “like a hotel room.”

The richest man in the world, who also currently runs Tesla and SpaceX, wants to turn Twitter into a leaner, engineer-led company.

In an email to all (remaining) employees, he wrote, “Those who write great code make up the majority of our team and will have the greatest impact.”

He added that making Twitter successful means “working long hours at high intensity” and “only exceptional performance will do.”
