The head of Oculus VR, John Carmack, says goodbye to Meta: “This is the end of my decade in VR”

Through an internal message reported by said medium, Carmack revealed his decision. “This is the end of my decade in VR”sentenced.

In addition, the reason for his departure would be the discontent he feels with the company’s progress in the field of virtual reality, since Carmack believes that Meta lacks effectiveness despite having many resources and staff. “It’s been a struggle for me, we built something pretty close to the right thing. The problem is our efficiency”.

Initially, Carmack joined Oculus as CTO in 2013. after having promoted the original Oculus Rift prototypes. A year later entered Meta when the company acquired Oculus, but in 2019 his role was reduced, as he left his position as CTO of Oculus to take a step to the position of CTO of consulting.

His departure, in short, marks a milestone for the company, since it is the maximum person in charge of the development of the Meta Quest and the technology of virtual reality. Despite having clashed with the managers, Carmack believes there are opportunities in Meta and encouraged employees to make better decisions and take an interest in the products.
