Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV, the small Chinese car that fights Tesla

What is it about the Wuling Hong Guang that makes it so attractive, even for fighting the vehicles of Tesla? And it is that it has gotten into the list of ten electric vehicles best sellers in the world, occupying the third position.

According to the list of the French media L’Argus, in 2022 7.8 million electric units were sold, which represents 10% of all vehicles sold and an increase of 68% compared to the previous year. In other words, it is a trend that continues to grow.

The one who leads this market is definitely Tesla. Elon Musk’s brand has its Model Y and Model 3 models occupying the first two positions on the list of best-selling vehicles: 747,500 units of Tesla Model Y and 482,200 units of Tesla Model 3.

In third place is the Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV, from the Chinese manufacturer SAIC-GM-Wuling. Despite its small size, this unit with only two doors and an austere design has been able to enter the fight with the manufacturers of electric cars.

What’s so special? First, it can be understood as a sign of the strong Chinese presence in electric cars. The following positions are taken by brands such as BYD and GAC. Only the European brand Volkswagen occupies the sixth position. The rest has been taken over by China.

But it’s not like this unit has it easy. It is a compact and cheaper vehicle that went on sale in 2020. Its size is only 2.9 meters long; 1.4 meters wide; 1.6 meters tall and 665 kg in weight. Pretty light for a car.

In China it is the best seller thanks to the fact that it is practical in congested cities and in small provinces, according to the Motor Pasion page. Now, the vehicle offers only up to 170 kilometers of autonomy and its price is 28,800 yuan. In Mexico, it began to be sold at $89,000 Mexican pesos, which is equivalent to about 20,000 soles.
