The technology company has modified the period of inactivity of an account to two years, which means that if a user has spent that time without accessing or using their account, it can be deleted, as well as the data it contains.

This move was reported in May, when Google explained that an account that has not been used for a long period of time is more likely to be compromisedsince it is possible that their owners have not installed two-factor authentication.

« This change will apply to any inactive Google account; that is to say, an account that hasn’t been used or logged in for two years », reiterates the technology company. However, it also refers to a series of exceptions, such as that it will only focus on user ones and will not affect those of companies or educational institutions.

Nor will it delete those inactive accounts “with YouTube channels, videos or comments”, nor those with a gift card with a balance or an application published in an ‘app’ store such as the Play Store.
