Images from the Arma 3 video game are used as ‘fake news’ about the war between Israel and Hamas

The Czech studio Bohemia Interactive has once again warned about the use that is being made of its Arma 3 video gamewhose images are shared as real captures of war conflicts, on this occasion of the war between Israel and Hamas.

Arma 3 is a war simulation video game published in 2013 for Windows that stands out for its realism. It is set in the year 2035, but allows its players to create modifications and share them with the community, on combat terrain, weapons, uniforms or vehicles, among other elements, to recreate other conflicts.

Bohemia Interactive already warned in November of last year that images from this video game were being used as if they came from the war in Ukraine, and this Friday it did the same, pointing out that Arma 3 is being used “as a source of news images false” about the Middle East, due to the war between Israel and Hamas.

The development studio has again shared the statement it published in November, in which it explains that “these user-created videos have the potential to go viral and are shared massively by social media users; sometimes even by various major media outlets or official government institutions around the world.”

“It is disheartening for us to see the game we all love being used in this way,” they say in a post shared on X, and regret “not being able to mitigate [este problema] completely”.

However, they assure that they are working with the main fact-checking agencies and have even highlighted the role of some members of the community, who are helping “to discredit said videos on various social media platforms.”
