Facebook named “worst company of the year” in poll

A survey commissioned by Yahoo Finance makes Facebook the “worst company of the year”. The 1,541 people questioned “voted in favor” of Marc Zuckerberg’s company, recently renamed Meta, which is well ahead of Alibaba with 8% of the vote against 4% for the Chinese company.

Suspicion of abuse of a dominant position

The various scandals have ended up damaging the image of Facebook over the years. Respondents notably returned to antitrust investigations targeting the company in Europe and the United States, due to suspected abuse of a dominant position in the social networks and instant messaging market.

Facebook, which had bought Instagram and WhatsApp, is for example suspected of preventing rival applications from connecting to its own. The firm thus risks dismantling.

The revelations of Frances Haugen

The year 2021 was also marked for Facebook by the revelations of their former employee Frances Haugen. In an article published in the Wall Street Journal, the whistleblower thus affirmed, supporting documents, that Facebook would have privileged its interest despite the recognized impact of its platforms on adolescent mental health or on the dissemination of false information.

For 30% of voters, however, Facebook, or rather Meta, should not retain its title the following year. They believe that the recent reorientation of the company towards the metaverse could be a profitable choice.
