Established so far in 7 municipalities, the curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. has been extended to the whole of Reunion Island, due to the increase in the incidence rate of the coronavirus on this island in the Indian Ocean , announced the prefecture on Tuesday.

“The curfew at 10 p.m. helps preserve the daily life of Reunion Islanders, while avoiding the mixing of populations in the evening. This measure aims to limit the movement of population between the municipalities and the moments of nocturnal conviviality, not very conducive to compliance with barrier gestures, ”the prefecture said in a statement on Tuesday.

An incidence rate close to 100

The measure is introduced for a period of 15 days in order to slow down viral circulation. “The incidence rate is now very close to 100 per 100,000 inhabitants”, according to the text. The curfew put in place from February 12 in four municipalities in the department had already been extended by the prefecture to three additional municipalities Thursday evening.

The Minister of Overseas Affairs, Sébastien Lecornu, had asked the prefect on Twitter on Monday to “make proposals to strengthen the protection of Reunionese against the traffic of the Covid-19”.
