Ukraine urges its citizens to leave Russia “immediately”

The Ukrainian government today urged its citizens who are in Russia to leave that country “immediately” in the face of the intensification of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

“In connection with the intensification of Russian aggression against Ukraine (…), the Foreign Ministry recommends that Ukrainian citizens refrain from traveling to the Russian Federation and those who are in this country to leave its territory immediately,” Ukrainian diplomacy said in a statement.

Kiev considers that in the current circumstance of military tensions with Russia their ability to provide consular assistance in that country to Ukrainians may be limited.

The tensions between Moscow and Kiev are increasing every day and the Russian recognition of the self-proclaimed pro-Russian separatist republics of Lugansk and Donetsk and the possible sending of Russian troops to these territories has led the Ukrainian authorities to consider the possibility of breaking off diplomatic relations with Russia.
