Which African countries are most dependent on Russian (and Ukrainian) wheat?

The war waged by Russia in Ukraine is unfortunately destined to cause damage far beyond the theater of the clashes. It is this gloomy prospect that has led the UN to warn against a probable increase in famine and malnutrition in the world.

The concerns relate more specifically to the African continent, where many countries mainly obtain their supplies of Russian and Ukrainian agricultural products: 25 African countries import more than a third of their wheat needs from the two countries currently in conflict (15 between them even import more than half).

A dependence here majority, here total

Two countries even show total dependence: Benin, which imports 100% Russian wheat, and Somalia, which gets 70% from Ukraine and 30% from Russia.
On the supplier side, Russia supplies the African continent with 32% when Ukraine has to “be satisfied” with 12%.

Discover the ranking of the top eight African countries importing Russian and Ukrainian wheat in the infographic below.
