The United States warns that Russia “repositions” its forces near kyiv but without “withdrawal”

Russia is “repositioning” its forces near kyiv, but not a “withdrawal,” and the Ukrainian capital remains under threat, the Pentagon said Tuesday.

“We are seeing a small number (of troops) now that appears to be moving away from Kyivsaid Pentagon spokesman John Kirby.

“But we are not prepared to call this a pushback or a withdrawal.”, he assured at a press conference. And he added: “We think what they probably have in mind is a repositioning to prioritize other places.”

“We should all be ready to see a big offensive against other areas of Ukraine,” Kirby said. “This does not mean that the threat to Kyiv has finished”.

The Pentagon spokesman stated that “Russia has failed in its goal of capturing kyiv”, but “it can still inflict massive brutal damage on the country, including in kyiv”.

Russia promised this Tuesday to reduce military activity around Kyiv after the “significant” conversations held with Ukraine on istanbulalthough the United States questioned the “seriousness” of Moscow in these negotiations.
