The Subway of Santiago de Chile reported this Tuesday an electrical failure in a train, which suffered explosions and unleashed panic among passengers. After the failure, recorded at the Las Rejas station on Line 1, the general manager of the Metro, Rubén Alvarado, explained that it was due to an electric arc in one of the station’s trains.

According to the general manager of Metro, “At 7:40 a.m. there was an electric arc, a fault in one of our trains at Las Rejas stationwhich produced quite a bit of smoke.”

“As a result of this, it was necessary to evacuate the station and suspend the service in the section between San Pablo and Central Station, that is, we are with the operational network on Line 1 from Central Station to Los Dominicos”, express.

Alvarado affirmed that “we are working to recover the service as soon as possible and we have also coordinated with the director of Metropolitan Public Transport to reinforce the section without bus service.”

Subsequently, Fire personnel explained that the event was due to a “detachment of the battery, which generated an arc, and a lot of smoke in the station.” In addition, he assured that no one was injured by the situation.

The suspension of the service caused a high congestion of passengers on the surfacewho tried to take buses of the collective locomotion to reach their destinations.

According to videos published by passengers, there was an explosion on the subway track, a situation that caused fear among users, who quickly evacuated the place.
