All the patients are men between 20 and 61 years old, although most are under 40 years old, according to the Portuguese General Directorate of Health (DGS) in a statement today.

By region, the outbreaks are centered in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, although the Algarve (south) and North are also growing.

The identified cases “are kept under clinical monitoring and are stable,” the entity specified, explaining that “the information collected through epidemiological surveys is being analyzed to contribute to the evaluation of the outbreak at the national and international level.”

The previous data update was released last Friday, when there were 74 cases.

The DGS specified on Thursday that it is working on the creation of a “national vaccine reserve” and is evaluating the possibility of vaccinating “contacts of confirmed cases and health professionals in the context of this outbreak.”

Monkeypox or “monkeypox”, of the Orthopoxvirus genus, is a rare disease transmissible through contact with infected animals or people or with contaminated materials.
