China registers 89 new cases of coronavirus, 69 due to local contagion

The National Health Commission of China announced today the detection of 89 new positives for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus this Sunday, 69 of them by local contagion in Beijing (29), Inner Mongolia (north, 27), Shanghai (east, 11) and Chongqing (center, 2 ).

The remaining 20 cases were found among travelers from abroad at various points of entry into the country.

Chinawhich applies a severe “zero tolerance” policy towards the new coronavirushas suffered in the last three months a wave of outbreaks attributed to the omicron variant that has caused record numbers of infections not seen since the start of the pandemic in the first half of 2020.

Health authorities also reported today the detection of 131 asymptomatic cases, 74 by local contagion, although Beijing does not count them as confirmed cases unless they show symptoms.

The total of this type of infections under observation is 2,396, of which 467 come from other territories.

The National Health Commission also detailed that, until last local midnight (4:00 p.m. GMT on Sunday), 66 patients were discharged after successfully overcoming covid.

The total number of active infected in the China continental amounts to 886, 19 of which are serious.

According to the institution’s accounts, since the start of the pandemic, 224,882 people have been infected in the country, among whom 218,770 have managed to heal and 5,226 have died.

To date, medical follow-up has been carried out on more than 4.1 million close contacts with those infected, of which 114,850 are still under observation.
