Nathan Carman, the man accused of killing his mother at sea to inherit her millions, seeks to be released

Nathan Carman, the man accused of killing his mother at sea in a plot to inherit millions of dollars, petitioned a federal court Wednesday to USA to authorize their release pending trial.

The lawyers of Nathan Carman they filed a motion in US District Court in Burlington alleging that the evidence against him is “weak at best” and that he does not represent a flight risk or danger to the community.

As release conditions, Carman is willing to hand over his passport, go through an electronic check, and hand over all the money he has, $10,000.to a third party or use part of that money as bail, the document says.

They also maintain that he has been under criminal investigation for almost a decade and has faced civil litigation, but has always appeared in court.

“At no time during that lengthy period did Mr. Carman attempt to threaten a witness, contact a witness inappropriately, or attempt to influence a witness in any way,” his attorneys say.

After the arrest of Carmanprosecutors argued that he should be held because he represents a flight risk and is a danger to the community.

Nathan Carman has been in custody since his arrest in May when he was charged with one count of first-degree murder in the death of his mother, Linda Carman from Middletownduring a fishing trip off the coast of Rhode Island. His body was never found.

He was also charged with multiple counts of fraud.

The authorities claimed that Carman he also killed his grandfather, John Chakalos, at his home in Windsor, Connecticut, in 2013, as part of a scheme to obtain money and property from his estate, but was not charged with such murder.

Wednesday’s motion says that during the eight years he lived in Vernon, Vermont, Carman he led a quiet life, with strong ties to the community, participating in town forums, attending a local church, and had many local friends.
